UITS provides several secure services that allow Indiana University students, faculty, and staff work on documents and share files with IU collaborators and others who are not affiliated with IU. For file storage and collaborative work with IU Affiliates UITS recommends OneDrive or Google Drive. For temporary file sharing UITS provides SlashTMP: https://kb.iu.edu/d/angt. For general everyday file storage, UITS provides paid use of Geode-Project storage space.
Administrative File Storage
We provide space on our administrative File Server for Chemistry Faculty and Staff for the purposes of storing and sharing administrative, instructional, and collaborative data needed for the day to day operation of the department.
Scholarly Data Archive
The Scholarly Data Archive (SDA) is a University resource for storage of large data sets. Being mostly tape-based, it is optimized for a relatively small number of large files, so it is best suited for archival use, i.e. storing large .zip files, etc., rather than frequently used or modified sets of files. Storage of a large number of small files on the SDA is discouraged, as it can degrade performance. SDA accounts are typically given a quota of 50 TB.
The SDA was formerly known as the Massive Data Storage System (MDSS), and is also known as HPSS (High Performance Storage System), which is actually the software running in the background of this system.

Geode II Research Space
The College of Arts and Sciences has an agreement with UITS Research Technologies for paid use of Geode-Project storage space. This storage is paid for by the College and is free to researchers within the College. By default new accounts are allocated 2 TB, up to 8 TB with College approval. Above 8 TB can be paid for by individual researchers, at a rate of $150 per TB per year.
This resource is suitable for general everyday file storage use.
